Sony RDR-HXD870

I'm having real problems.

I've just been to buy a Sony RDR-HXD870 DVD Recorder mainly because I want to record Freeview channels on the harddrive, but I just can't get the thing to work. I'll confess now, I'm hopeless.

I've set it up like this:

Wall > Digital aerial In > Digital aerial out > TV

I also have a scart running from 'Line 3 - TV' to the back of the TV, I'm not sure I have to do this...

I've set 'EPG Type Select' to 'Guide (Digital)'

But I can't get Freeview, I can't get any channels. In the manual it says under the EPG section that 'Digital services are not instantly available when the recorder is first turned on'... why, what does this mean?

When I press 'Guide' on the remote control is says 'This fuction cannot be used now'

I'm in a state of despair, if anyone could point me in the right direction I'd be extremely grateful... thank you in advance.

Re: Sony RDR-HXD870

well , I have to assume you have freeview in your area ?

ie:- do you know you can receive freeview ?

once its all wired up all you do is switch on and go through the easy setup guide

once this is done access the freeview digital channels using the input button below the green power button at the top of the remote

press it until you get the dtv channels , then select the one you want

couldnt be any easier , and its all explained in the manual

dont forget to select the scart av input on your tv as well , otherwise you wont see the recorder

Re: Sony RDR-HXD870

Have you plugged the aerial in to the Digital input or the analog input of the Sony?

You want the digital one.

Press the input button on the handset until you see D000 or D001 or something starting with D.

D means its using the digital tuner.
P I think means the analog.

Next thing to do is to tune the digital stations in, see the user manual.

If all that fails ether the machine is faulty or your freeview signal coming down the aerial lead is to weak.
