Copy from Sony Video Camera onto Panasonic DMR EZ45V
Hi All - My parents have a Panasonic EZ45V VHS/DVD Combo. They want to record from their Sony digital video camera onto DVD.
They do NOT have a DV cable, though I think they could get one if necessary. (I believe that if they got a DV cable the machine will detect it automatically?)
They DO have the Red/White/Yellow cable that goes into the (AV3?) connection at the front, and can watch playback from the camera this way. Is it possible to use this connection to record onto DVD, and if so how do they do it?! I'm trying to do this from a distance, with no access to the machines or the manuals, Panasonic Customer Service are closed for the weekend, and I'm having to rely on what I am being told over the phone!
Any help much appreciated! Thanks!

Re: Copy from Sony Video Camera onto Panasonic DMR EZ45V
Welcome to the forum.
It is simply a case of plugging the cable into AV3 at the front, selecting AV3 as the input, placing a recordable disk in the machine, playing the tape and recording the result.
The should be able to see and monitor the result before recording.
Regarding the DV cable - if used, they would still have to select AV3 - It's not that automatic.
Also, the automatic features are generally very flakey and often do not work.
Frankly they are more trouble than they are worth so I would avoid sending them down that route.

I was about to provide you with a link to the Panasonic site where you could get the manual... but unfortunately Panasonic seem to have left all links pointing to their eshop at the moment.
Maybe it will be back up later.

Gavtech - Many thanks for your prompt reply. "It is simply a case of plugging the cable into AV3 at the front, selecting AV3 as the input, placing a recordable disk in the machine, playing the tape and recording the result". They can select and WATCH the input from AV3, but they can't find an option to RECORD it onto DVD. Sorry I can't be more precise! If you (or anyone else) knows which menu to go to and could detail the steps required that would be great! And thanks for the advice about the DV cable.

If theirs a blank disc in the drive and A3 is showing in the lcd display it's simply a case of pressing record.

Hi
It is not actually necessary to use menus at all.
Select the drive [ ie DVD ] Then press record. That's all it takes.
Tell them they will find general recording instruction on page 31 and specific 'Recording from a camera' instructions on page 32 of the manual... which should help them.
Good luck.

Re: Copy from Sony Video Camera onto Panasonic DMR EZ45V
Why am I sooo stooopid! I haven't been able to pass that info on yet, Gavtech, but that certainly sounds as if it SHOULD work! I was thinking of 'Copying' rather than 'Recording' (From an external source, in this case) and making it much more difficult than it need be! If there are any more problems I'll get back to you, but at this stage I think a 'Well-Done' fanfare is appropriate! Many thanks for your time and trouble. Malc
