I doubt the single point this reviewer makes is accurate. Probably a case of not knowing how to achieve it.

I looked, but couldn't find one... but in any case those magazine appraisals should always be treated with suspicion.

They can be useful at pointing out specific operational issues - but that's all.

So is there some specific function you want... because otherwise it is a Pioneer and that means excellent build quality and will be a good machine.

No, there is no specific function i want to use apart from transferring programs from my sky hd box, making the odd dvd and connecting the recorder to my LX50 amp for surround sound.

i know the programs from my Sky HD box will be in SD format once transferred as i can only use the scart to connect the two devices.

Overall, i like the Pioneer DVR-550HX-S a lot because it can read/write most DVD Formats but i just found it strange there was no magazine reviews on the net.

Re: Pioneer DVR-550HX-S - where can I find reviews?

Certainly I do not recommend DVR-550HX-S in your case, but DVR-LX60D, as it fits in design to your LX60 receiver. No doubts, the only choice.
If you still insist not to match design, there is a later model DVR-555HX-S, supporting reomote over HDMI and USB port.
Sony is known for its grainy picture and Panasonic is the only other left from the better devices including DVB-T tuner. Beware of the Pioneer, as it use to have noisy drives. Some people found it as a reson to replace them. In my PC I got Pioneer recorder, it works perfect, but is a bit noisy, like a cricket, compared to my NEC which is almost noiseless.

i am not bothered about the colour of the recorder and dont really want to spend almost £500 on a DVD recorder.

Whilst the later model DVR-555HX-S, supports remote over HDMI and USB port seen as its not available in the UK i think i'll buy the DVR-550HX-S.

But thanks for telling me about the noise problem.
