You need to say how you've hooked it up...which scart goes where?

Re: help please - sony rdrhxd970 + virgin pace 1001b box
all connected by scart....
TV ---> Sony recorder (line 3)
Recorder (line 1) ----> Pace STB (VCR input)
there is no external aerial connected.
this is driving me nuts!

That may be the problem.
The Guideplus system takes its data from Analogue ITV or Eurosport on Sky.

I don't know if it works on cable, nothing to stop you trying.

You'd call up the programme guide on the DVDR navigate to a prog you want to record and with one push of a button it's set the timer to record it AFAIK.

Re: help please - sony rdrhxd970 + virgin pace 1001b box
im also in a similar position. after looking at the www.europe.guideplus.com website it seems that this particular STB is not compatible as standard with the recorder. a device known as red-eye is needed to covert the IRDA signal to IR and costs about £35 from http://www.redremote.co.uk/. my question however is that even without this device the STB is connected to the recorder via scart so it should still get the TV listings through the cable connection.
only had mine a day though and it says to wait at least 24hours for the listings...
any thoughts from anyone?

No, it only changes channels on the STB (when it works) it has nothing to do with the Guide+.

Re: help please - sony rdrhxd970 + virgin pace 1001b box
is the guide plus a good system? is it worth me buying this £35 add on or is it better just to stick with manual recordings?

Personally I'd try and get the Guide+ system working first before spending the money on the remote switching device.
Not having cable...it isn't available in my area...I can't help any further sorry.

Re: help please - sony rdrhxd970 + virgin pace 1001b box
well ive left it on eurosport channel 521 on VM and changed the host channel to this and ext1. after turning the recorder off it took some updates, there is now a green screen showing the channels which wasnt there previously but it doesnt have any tv listings yet....better than before anyway...
jsut checked the info bit and it says next update will be tonight at 3am for 120minutes. hoepfully this is good?!

Re: help please - sony rdrhxd970 + virgin pace 1001b box
thankfully the update occurred and i know have the channel listings...
couple of questions:
1 - if i were to get the red-eye translator thing and managed to get the dvd recorder to control my STB, if i scheduled a recording can i leave my ntl box off so that when the program begins the box will turn itself on, or would i have to leave the box on??
2 - is there any way off changing the time/frequency of the host channel updates for the guide plus epg. currently it is downloading them at 3am everynight which has woken me up!
thanks
