Pioneer DVR-530 Magic Eye

The Pioneer DVR-530 has a magic eye that is setup to point at the Sky Box remote receiver so that it can change channel when set to record. I have just started to have a problem where it fails to correctly change channel, on a number of occasions I can actually see on the recording that it has attempted to change channel but one or more numbers have failed to register hence it not changing to the desired channel. I don't know whether it is broken (and if it is where can I get a replacement?) or whether some other issue is stopping it from working?

I used to have a normal shaped sky box which made it very easy to align the eye and affix it firmly, I recently upgraded to the new curvy Pace (same as Thomson and Amstrad) box which makes it difficult to attach as there is no flush surface above where the remote receiver is located. Currently it is only held in place with a piece of duck tape - I have adjusted it and it has some effect but is very intermittent, unfortunately that does not really tell me whether there is a loose connection or it's just not located properly.

Has anybody else had similar problems with the magic eye on this unit?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I used to have an issue with my 530H where occasionally it would send the first one or two digits of a three digit channel code, pause for about 30 seconds and then send the remainder. By the time the last digit was sent, the Skybox had already cancelled the first digits, therefore the channel wasn't changed.

I found that this was invariably associated with coming out of standby while updating the EPG, and is documented in a post I made some months ago about 530H quirks.

If this is the same for you (the problem happens when it turns itself on while EPG is showing) there is a workaround.

Set a 1 minute timer event just before the event you want to record. This will wake the recorder up so that when the event you actually want to record comes up the recorder is either already on or at least not EPG-ing.

Re: Pioneer DVR-530 Magic Eye

Hi

I blew my ir blaster (magic eye) by accidently plugging it into my cable box
but was able to replace the photo diode with one from an old video remote
control
