Silent (or silencing) DVD Players (noisy Sony RDR-GX300)

My current DVD player (A sony RDR-GX300 dvd recorder) has quite a noisy fan. It's not a problem most of the time, but when you get to quiet bits of a movie, it really makes it hard to hear the dialogue without cranking up the volume, but with a sleeping baby upstairs I need to watch films quietly now.

I guess I have two questions:

has anyone successfully silenced one of these? (slowing down the fan, replacing with a better fan, etc)

can you recommend me a good silent DVD player (record option not important). Not too pricy. HDMI output would be useful as one day I might finally get an HD tv, but at the moment I am just using RGB scart.

Thanks,

Leon
