DVD recorders with HD up-conversion

I'm looking to buy a new DVD recorder, as the cheap and cheerful one I currently have just doesn't cut it. I've got a Panasonic TH-42PX700 to watch it on, so I'd ideally like one that has Full HD 1080p Up-Conversion (a slightly suspicious phrase that I lifted wholesale from the Panasonic site).

Unfortunately, the Panasonic ones only seem to have digital tuners, and as we're not getting digital terrestrial in my area for a few years, I'd like one with both analogue and digital tuners.

Anyone got any ideas? I definitely don't want Phillips, as I had massive reliability (and customer service) issues with the Phillips DVD recorders I had previously, which is why I ended up getting a cheap recorder from Asda as a stopgap!

Thanks in advance...

Thumbs up Re: DVD recorders with HD up-conversion

I've just bought the Sony RDR-HXD1070B DVD Recorder. Comes with a 500Gb HDD and both digital and analogue tuners built in, plus upscaling to 1080i and 1080p.

I bought it online from Dixons for £425. Their original price was £465 plus delivery but they will price match if you find it cheaper elsewhere.
www.cheapelectricals.co.uk offered this machine for £425 including delivery and VAT, so they agreed to price match, received it yesterday. It's predecessor the RDR-HXD970 came top in most reviews apparently and is pretty much the same apart from the larger HDD. Hope this helps.

You're only really left with the Sony '70 series: the HXD 770, 870, 970, or 1070.

They're all the same machine, differing only in the size of the hard disc. [Bigger number = bigger disc]

They all have the features you want.

The 870 is probably the 'smallest' you'll find... the 770 does not seem to have been shipped to the UK.

Not often two people agree on this site! Thanks, guys - sounds like one of those will be the one to go for.
