Looking for a recorder that can record 24x7

Hi, does anyone know of any DVD+Hard disk recorders that can be set to record a channel 24x7?

Or at least 24 hours worth of a single channel?

I fear that most recorders with an EPG will insist on 'booking' programs to be recorded, whereas I need one that can record an entire channel.

I should add I'm not fussed about the quality, obviously it will need to be some sort of SP/LP quality setting..

AFAIK all HDD recorders can set recordings from timers. Whether any of them have uppper limits to file/recording sizes I dont know. I have a HDD only recorder which can record from timers and has about 80 hours storage.
I vaguely rememeber someone saying they failed to get a recording longer than about 6 or 8 hours on one timer setting. I dont suspose many people have tried it.
With recordings that long you can forget about using DVDR although you may still need a HDD/DVDR recorder as only the ones with DVDR record from external sources so may depend on what platform i.e. analogue, Freeview; Sky or cable etc that you want to record from.
If you actually want this to record from a surveilance camera there are specialist recorders for that mostly VCR I think.

The Sony 860 will record up to 8 hours, and the Pioneer 940 12 hours at a stretch, if you just press the record button. I don't know of any that record for longer than that tho. You could always just set up consecutive recording events though. That would work.

I think the max length on Panasonics is 8 hours... but as JH4 suggests, you could just string timers together.

If it is for a security purpose then [ Richard you may be interested to know ] there are specialist systems for this purpose.

My other half has just had a hard disk recording system installed at her workplace, which records the entire output of 13 cameras on a continuous cycle of recording over a period of two weeks!

Obviously this will not be full motion video ... but she says that, subjectively it's as near as.

Yes Gavtech I am thinking of ringing my vast estates in East London with such devices.
Actually am fascinated to know why on earth the OP would want to do this for any other purpose.

Panasonic HDD recorders have a maximum length of 8 hours, if you push record and leave it recording, then it will continue to record but start a new title every 8 hours.

Hi Manty,Dec 2005 I bought a Sharp dvd recorder with a 250gb harddrive,this is connected to a cctv camera. The timer is set to record every day 12 midnight to 12noon & 12noon to midnight with a chapter mark every 30 min's,I don't think you can get any longer than this without a "specialist" recorder. 250gb at lowest quality gives 2 weeks continuous recording,the picture quality is pretty good all things considered,still far better than my vhs recorder that needed a fresh tape every 8 hours!.I'm certainly recording 24x7 even though it's in 2 parts. The Sharp has now been recording non stop for over 15 months,just need to remember to delete some files every now and again,(anything important can of course be saved to disc).
