Recording specific freeview channels.

Ok, really sorry for my ignorance on this one but...........

My mam got an LG recorder (LG RH177) for christmas with built in hard drive. Now she can record both from her normal TV channels and her freeview box by just hitting record and it records whatever is on the screen on the DVD channel but we are having real problems when it comes to setting the timer for recording from freeview.

It will only record whatever freeview channel you leave the box set on, I was under the impression that you could program each station into the recorder and then record as required. But as I tried to store the freeview channels it just sees the whole freeview signal as one channel, hence it records only what the set top box is on.

I am choosing decoder when trying to set up the freeview channles.

Any help would be greatfully received as I am totally stumped on this,

Re: Recording specific freeview channels.

Yes, that would be right. The Freeview Tuner determines what programme - and that's in the Freeview set top box.

In order to record from different programmes, you'd need a means of telling the Freeview box to change programme. Some boxes have programmable timers in them. If hers has then that's what to use. If it doesn't, then she's limited to recording from one programme, unless/until she's there to change it manually.

Re: Recording specific freeview channels.

I did have an LG 200MH for a bit but then I dumped it.

you can read why here:
http://www.avforums.com/forums/showp...5&postcount=19

What you need is to think OUTSIDE THE BOX.

If your LG supports External Link you could see if the freeview box also supports External Link, this is essentially a SCART that looks for pin 19 (i think) and records anytime it detects a signal there. Then if you set a timer on the freeview box the DVD would kick in and record. This does ass-u-me that both support it.

If not you can get some programmable remotes that will send the right codes on a timer, they can be expensive.

What you really need is an EPG an electronic programme guide that supports freeview, I swapped my LG for a Panasonic EX-75 and it has the EPG and a damn fine picture too, even know I am using a naff loft aerial that is not even secured.

Just to get you up to speed on this one Zappo... 'The Video on Pin 19 detection' version of External Link [ i.e. Mode 2 ] does not require both units to support it... which is the point of it really.

A unit which has this feature will record from ANY source that will output on a standard scart pin 19, which all do.

It is External link Mode 1 which requires support in both units. In that version the units talk directly at bus level, and arrange switching appropriately.
