dvd recorder with input for sky

Hi
I'm new and looking for advice.
I want a dvd recorder with a hard drive. I thought I found a nice one Toshiba RD-85DT, I was all ready to buy it when I found a review that it won't record sky. I liked the idea of a freeview tuner for when it eventually comes round here. I 'understand' I need a dvd recorder with a rgb scart input to be able to record sky but finding dvd specs with this (and not understanding the terms!!) is hard going.
Can anyone point me in the direction of a good recorder with 160GB or more of memory with this input for sky for less than £300. Or am I asking too much!!
Thanks.

Not quite true...it will record from a Sky digibox as will any DVDR...just not in RGB which gives in most cases the best picture recording quality...you may be quite happy with recording in Composite video...a lot of people are.
I'm sure for the money you're talking about spending you should be able to get a JVC, Panasonic or Sony DVDR which will have RGB in.

Re: dvd recorder with input for sky

If you want specific models then the Pioneer DVR-540HX-S is on Amazon for £274 and Panasonic DMR-EX75EB-S is £287, i.e. both less than £300 and 160GB.

I have both and can testify that they record (and pass through) Sky via RGB Scart (best way). Don't know if that is the best price though, just checked amazon for reference.

Re: dvd recorder with input for sky

Many Thanks to you both for replying. I really knew nothing about all the types of input. I'm still feeling my way though! Thanks JayCee for letting me know it is possible to record, I think I will go down a different route and find one that has more options.
ChainsawDude thanks for those models I'm off now to look at them. Having a specific one to look for is so much easier - Thank you!!

Cool Re: dvd recorder with input for sky

Guys can one of you help me out. I have a Sony RDRHX725 and I have been told by Sony that I cannot use the Guide+ system without a Terrestrial Ariel available. Is this correct? All other documentation would suggest that the Guide+ system is available via whatever moethod you are using. I am a sole SKY user and do not have a terrestrial aerial....however following the documentation would suggest I can pick up the guide+_EPG but I do not get anything at all. Any ideas?

Check out the Panasonic EX-75 you can pick these up for around £300 yet they are at the top end of the market.

When you have a shortlist come back and get some opinions on all, also look at the Sony (860) and Pioneer (545).

I believe Guide+ gets the EPG via sky from the eurosport channel, but not sure how you set your player up. However, let me know how you get on as I'm getting the RDRHX725 player soon and do not have an analogue feed the same as you. I'll be a tad annoyed if I cannot set it up to read the EPG from eurosport

(And isn't analogue ending in a few years?)

The Panasonic ex-75 has an EPG for its freeview.
