Sony Rdr-hxd860 Models Multiregion

I see that some places advertise the

Sony 160GB RDRHXD860S

as well as the bog standard

Sony 160GB RDRHXD860.

I see that there is another model advertised, the multi-region model.

Are these models all the same - If not what are the differences. Are there any other variations, if so what are they, and what are the differences?

I've heard that some suppliers import from abroad. Are these safe and if not how do I know which ones to avoid?

If I buy a non multi-region how easy is it to upgrade to multi region?

They're the same box, the S denotes the silver colour (they are all silver but everyone bothers to list the full product code).

Pixmania often do European versions of products and so you have to be careful, everyone else as far as I know does UK products. It's a classic scare story from the big high street stores to stop you buying online.

If you're worried, get John Lewis in Bristol to pricematch Empire direct - then you'll also get a 2 year warranty thrown in.

It can be region hacked using a one for all remote from argos (circa £20) or you can buy a box that someone has already done it on for you (see region hacks forum).

Hope this helps! I didn't know you could get freeview in Beddau
