Re: Panasonic DMR EX75 Experiences so far....

OK, thanks for the link, will fill out the form.....it could be a setup issue as i had a real nightmare getting the tv to work with the machine.......machine only works on s-video output with my Matsui (dont laugh) tv........will try today to change setup again to see what happens.......

And yes, the blank screen effect does occur after rapidly changing channels....and yes i get the same effect that if pressing function i get the picture reappearing next to the menu and tv guide works perfectly....

Re: Panasonic DMR EX75 Experiences so far....

Hello - wonder if anyone can help me with a similar, but more serious problem.

I bought a new EX75 a few weeks ago, hooked it up to a Philips HD LCD via HDMI and have had no complaints.

However... today whenever I try to select (with the TV input button) the EX75 to watch something the screen goes from blue to black.

There appear to be no problems with the TV.

Switching the EX75 on and off and unplugging it make no difference. Selecting different drives on the unit makes no difference. (The unit appears to be functioning according to the display.)

This is particularly annoying since I have rather a lot of lovely TV programmes on the HDD that I've not yet watched! Which of course I'll lose if the unit is replaced.

I've tried calling Panasonic's 'Customer Support' line only to hear a recorded message announcing, very supportively, that they're not taking any calls.

I emailed them, but don't hold out too much hope of a response.

Third time lucky! Tried unplugging the unit and leaving it for ten minutes again and problem solved.

For the time being.

Re: Panasonic DMR EX75 Experiences so far....

I plan to buy this recorder but I have a question about the SD card.
Can you also record to the card (like panny PX600) or is this only for playback?

Thanks

You cannot record video but I think you can copy albums of JPG's back to SD.

No - recording is not possible.

A SD card can not be read fast enough to display full screen full motion video.

However it is possible to copy off MPEG2's FROM the card to a RAM or the hard disk and then play the files from there.

Another Panny freeview tuner problem report!

HI,
I'm searching around the AV Forums as my DMR-E75 has just decided that it's going to kill every DVD-RAM I give it, so I'm thinking of buying a DMR-EX75 now, and I'm interested to hear what everyone has to say.

However, this is not why I'm posting. I am posting to report an observation to do with the Panasonic channel switching problem people have experienced on the DMR-EX75.

I have a Panasonic TX26LXD1 LCD IDTV (2 y/o), which I presume is using a very similar software set for managing it's DVB tuner as the DMR-EX75 uses.

I can confirm that sustained channel switching (e.g. keep pressing CH ^ over and over) will cause the picture to go black, effectively causing the TV to 'crash'.

Specifically, I have noted that the rate at which you switch channels determines whether this 'crash' will occur or not. If you continually switch channels so quickly that the TV doesn't have time to generate a picture, then it will crash every time. However, if you switch the channel, wait for a picture, then switch again, etc etc, it will never crash.

Once it has crashed, it is not possible to bring up the information banner, or even switch to AV. The only remedy is to put the TV into stand by (disconnecting mains is not necessary), and back on again straight away. Then things back to how they should be.

I often avoid this problem, as I have learned not to switch channels like this. Instead, I use the up/down cursor buttons on the remote to see programme titles on the information banner. When I find something I want to watch I press OK to see that channel. I would hope that this 'work around' will also work on other Panasonic Freeview tuners too.

Hope this helps,
David

Blank Screen Problem

Hi, having recently purchased a EX75, I too randomly and infrequently get this problem of a blank screen after a few seconds of watching a channel on its digital tuner. Just wondered if anyone had any updated info on this as this thead is now some months old. I've emailed Panasonic and have not had any reply yet.

thanks

Re: Panasonic DMR EX75 Experiences so far....

Which software version do you have?

If you have less than V1.11 [ you probably have 1.08] you will suffer the black screen problem.

This issue was covered extensively in this thread:
Panasonic EX75 / EX85 'Screen goes black' Problem. Register here.

As it happens , there has been another recent reception software issue with the EX75 and associated machines just recently.
Thread here:
Appeal to Panasonic Owners of EZ25, EZ45V, EX75, EX85, EX95V Freezing Problem

As a result of this, there will be a download of new reception software starting on the 20 August.

That new software should also deal with your screen going black problem.

Re: Panasonic DMR EX75 Experiences so far....

Hello again Gavtech. you last helped me a few months back when I was after advice on what DVD recorder to buy with a weak Freeview signal. After your advice I did go for the EX75 and have been really happy with it except for the black screen issue.

Sorry I missed the thread on this exact issue but did pick the one up about the "Glitching". Funnily enough, so far, I have not had an issue with Glitching.

Set up:
EX75 to Hitachi widescreen (+8 years old) via scart,
Recorder set on RGB1,
pointing to Rowbridge? (on I.O.W).
Software is v1.08.

I have tried to update via the setup but get the message that no newer software upgrade is available. Is there a way to force the 1.11 upgrade or should I wait for the 20th Aug upgrade? Thanks

The v1.08 is the problem software that is causing your black screen issue.

It is only possible to upgrade when over-the-air updates are being offered ... and they are exceedingly rare. There has only been one previously for this range of machines and that was broadcast back in April for about 4 days only [ V 1.11 ]

The upcoming update on the 20 August 2007 should solve your problem

Provided you have not changed your software update settings, it should occur automatically when the machine is in standby - during the period starting on the 20th.

This update is only being broadcast for 2 days - so if it has not updated by the 21st, you can do a manual search to try to force it.

You can keep an eye on the download schedule here... which is a good idea to do in case there are late changes - which is possible.:

Re: Panasonic DMR EX75 Experiences so far....

Thanks once again. A little worrying though is that I am off on holiday on the 19th for 2 weeks and was hoping to power down all non-essential appliances.

If I leave the player on standby and do not get the upgrade automatically within the first 2 days will I be able to do a manual upgrade 2 weeks later or can I get Panasonic to send me 1.11 or the 20th Aug upgrade by CD or zip file? I contacted them wrt the balck screen issue, a few weeks ago and chased up a few days ago with no reply. Should I chase up further for a manual form of the upgrade?

No - because it will no longer be being broadcast.

If you have normal reception it should upgrade without any problem.

The software for the machine is divided into two parts: The operating side and the DVB-T reception software. I have never known Panasonic supply DVB-T to a customer directly.
