Sony RDR-HXD910 problems

Just wondered if anyone else is experiencing similar problems to myself. My Sony HDD/DVD recorder randomly locks up and the only way to restore normality is to switch off power and switch back on which initiates 'RECOVERY'. This procedure can take anything up to five minutes to complete. The problem occurs totally randomly but often when selecting channel 3 (ITV) from the remote.

Having spoken to a relative they state they have similar problems with a standalone Freeview box so I wondered if this is a freeview issue?
