Record 2 Channels At Same Time

My Setup......I have a panasonic E55 dvd recorder and, "cringe", an aging video recorder soon to be replaced with a dvd recorder.......one with a hard drive....If I wish at the moment I can record a prog' and view another at same time, ( all with the dvd recorder )
No problem so far, If the prog I am recording is Analogue I can also start to watch it before the recording has finished, but NOT if recording Digital from the Freeview box.. If I attempt this procedure with Freeview I get a blank screen from the moment I try to watch it as it's being recorded. Is this situation resolvable? ......do I need 2 freeview boxes ?.
Oh the other thing!! I cannot record one prog with dvd recorder and another with the video recorder, ( the video recorder wants to record the same prog as the dvd is recording ) I assume this would be the same even with two dvd recorders. Or am I incorrect? A lot of ????? 's here , can Anyone throw any light on this matter.......

How are you trying to watch the program that is being recorded? You should be able to do it through your DVD (in my Panasonic EH50 you just press Play). You should not fiddle with the Freeview box while recording off it; that's what my wife just did and it's really annoying .

The Freeview box only displays one thing. To record two digital things you need two digital tuners. And I will stop there, as the options are too many to list and you may know them already.

I am trying to watch a prog' whilst it's being recorded, simply because , well I may be having my tea when it started and then the program is still being recorded and I wish to watch it, I can do this ok when using analogue, but when using the set top box No dice !! Maybe there is a way to wire the system differently ? Does your system allow you to do this operation that I am having problems with ?

As I said in my previous, how are you trying to watch the program that is being recorded? What exactly are you doing? And how are you connected?

Right Sorry for delay..in replying..If I wish to watch a prog whilst still recording it ( like i've been called away or something ) then I push the quick view button and select the program I wish to view from the icon.
Easy to do if the recording is from my arial ie: channels 1,2,or 3 analogue..in my area I can only get these three channels without the set top box.
As I say easy, but when it comes to trying to do that via digital.. no go..from the point I try to view it the recording is just a blank screen with no sound.
And I wonder when we are all digital will we or won't we be able to "chase" recordings

You need to state how it is all connected and to which scart socket on each piece of equipment.

I suggest getting freeview PVR like the Toppy and then you can record 2 digital at the same time and analogue on the E55 hich ou can also use to archive from the PVR (best solution and most flexible)

I don't think you are helping with the original question. And your suggestion implied Digital to Analogue to Digital conversions, which is not ideal, I don't think.

Brizey112, my Panasonic EH50 can play back what it is recording, so it's not a general technology issue, as you fear. Such a limitation, were it true for your recorder, would be well documented on the manual. Can you tell us more about the connections as per JayCee's post?
