Copying DVD to Hard Drive - Help please

I have recently dubbed about 50 hours of my own Umatic master tapes to DVD-R discs. I now want to back up this material without compression from the DVD drive onto my hard drive.

This will act as a backup and make the material readily available for editing.

Can anyone suggest software that will do this job with maximum quality? Also what is the best file type to use for this?

Thanks

Peter

Not too sure what you mean, but if you are talking about transfering the content of home-made DVDs to your PC hard drive, just drag and drop from Windows Explorer. There is no copy protection on home-made disks.

What type of file you end up with will depend on the recorder that you originally used. They may be VOBs or MPEG files.

Either way, there are dozens of bits of free and pay software that will allow you to edit both types of file.

Try pinnacle studio, you should be able to upload discs and it provides all editing sofware and is really easy to use.

Or Try Roxio software this also provides all editing software

Hard disks appear to have an unlimited life but can fail at anytime with no chance of recovery so be wary of using a harddisk for backup purposes.
You might be better to make working/master copies of your DVD-R disks.
