Why can't I have DIVX and DVB-T?

Could anybody explain why it seems that other territories get DIVX playback but not the UK. I was looking at Sony and Pioneer websites and it seems when they add freeview we lose DIVX. Why is this? I want DIVX as it a format my 3910 will not handle but I don't seem to be able to get it.

I do wish they'd sort this market out. For over a year I've been trying to buy a HDD/DVD-R but nobody makes one with Freeview. It doesn't make sense to buy with an analogue tuner at this stage but nobody makes what I'm looking for. I just called into a sony centre and asked them about HDD/DVD-R with freeview and they couldn't offer anything until the end of summer!

Sorry if this thread didn't seem to go anywhere. Rant over. Any thoughts or advice would be very welcome.

I imagine with the imminent demise of analogue broadcasting, companies are delaying the release of freeview dvd-hdd recorders untill they have cleared stock of the current models. We can only wait.

The upcoming Pioneer DVR-540HX-S (http://www.pioneer.co.uk/files/broch...Preview_EN.pdf) seems to have DivX & Freeview ( DVBt tuner + Freeview EPG as well as Guideplus EPG (?) according to page#18). Due... errr now? Amazon says it is selling it for 1-2 week delivery for £370.

Thanks for that, hadn't spotted that one turning up. No HDMI but now I think I really am demanding the impossible

(not for quality reasons but because I'd like to try and standardise on one nice slim cable, girlfriend is getting a bit concerned about the wiring loom)

The Pioneer 540 doesn't have hdmi but is it a feature worth losing with the gain of divx and freeview? You have to balance features out.

However compared to the previous Pioneer 530 it loses DV in, svhs and composite in on rear.

Even cheap supermarket dvd recorders have DV in.

Maybe the next pioneer will have hdmi, dv and a bigger harddisk.

The only way to get a decent dvd recorder with all features is to built a HTPC. (Home Theatre PC) which can be built for around £400 and networked as well.
