Ghost image on tv when DVD R switched on

Hi, hope someone can help with this as it's driving me crazy!!! I have just upgraded the DVDR in the lounge to a Panasonic DMR E50, so put the Panasonic DMR E20 in the kitchen on the LG LCD tv. The TV has only 1 scart input so have connected as such:
AV1 of DVD recorder to AV1 of TV
TV out scart socket on Freeview box to DVDR AV2
RF connected to Freeview rf in
RF out on Freeview box to RF in on DVDR
RF out from DVDR to RF in on tv

DVDR set to AV2 to record Freeview channels.

When the DVDR is switched on a 'ghost' image is visible in the background of the picture - the ghost being the same channel as is on the Freeview box - is especially noticable when any Text is on the screen. I have removed pin 19 from the scart but this has no effect whatsoever. I am using Ixos scarts so all scarts are shielded. If I turn the DVDR off the 'ghosting' immediately disapears!!!!!! Have tried moving the TV away from the DVDR but this has no effect either. Is there something obvious that I have missed or are my connections the problem? Even with the TV turned off when recording the 'ghost' images are captured whilst recording.
Would really appreciate any ides.
Thanks
G

Which pictures are you getting the ghosting on?

Has the Freeview box got a modulator?

Just a guess, but from your description it sounds like the ghosting might be on the analogue channels (1 to 5) on the EH50 and the TV. If it is, it could be that you've got a very strong analogue signal and you're seeing an overloading effect (intermodulation between the Freeview modulator output and one of the analogue TV signals). Disable the Freeview modulator if you can and you're not using it, or try tuning it to another channel. Otherwise if you've used a booster to improve your Freeview reception, try bypassing it and see if the ghost image disppears (when tuned to a Freeview channel that you can still receive without the booster). If so, try a lower gain output on the booster, or a lower gain booster, or an attenuator after the booster. If there's no booster then just try an attenuator (a splitter gives a few dB attenuation).

Thanks for the suggestions - not a clue if the box has a modulator or not - to be honest I'm a bit of a technophobe!!!!! The freeview box is a Matsui - we don't need a booster as we have a good signal from Winter Hill
The ghosting is whichever channel thats on if it's a freeview channel - the kids moan that it's particularly bad on TFM - the Text shows up very clearly as a faint 'see through' image and floats across the screen, but only if the DVDR is on - switch it off and like I said it vanishes!!!!!!!

So you see the ghost image when you're watching Freeview? I assume you watch Freeview by selecting AV1 input on the TV. In that case ignore what I said before. The ghost image must be another channel if it's floating across, so it has to be the channel the recorder is tuned to (since it's there with the TV off). The most likely culprit is the SCART cable. But if you've splashed out on Ixos cables presumably they are screened. You could try swapping the two SCART cables. (Anyway, against this theory, I don't think the EH50 outputs the channel it's tuned to, on any output, when it's recording.)

Did you have the E20 connected in exactly the same way? (Is it an E20 or an ES20?) If not, you could try substituting the E20 in place of the EH50.

You could try changing channel on the EH50 and see if the ghost image changes. You could also try unplugging each RF cable in turn to see if it has any effect on the ghost image.

Thanks for the help Maldonian, the DMR E50 is in the lounge and replaced the DMR E10 (sorry just looked at model numbers) that was set up there initially - we had no problems with it in the lounge and no problems with its replacement.
It's the DMR E10 that's giving the 'ghosting'. Yes we watch Freeview by selecting AV1 input on the TV and record with AV2 showing on the DVDR. When I select AV1 on the DVDR I get the analouge channels with no ghosting whatsoever.
I have just unplugged all the rf leads 1 at a time with no effect - in fact when I unplugged the main RF feed so that the signal vanished there where still 'ghost' vertical bands that slowly went across the screen. I have just tried the DMR E10 in its original place in the lounge and it worked perfectly!!!!!

The only diff is that the kitchen TV has only one scart. I'm losing the plot with this!!!!!!!!!!!!!

First, a couple of points

I take it's an EH50, the E50 is an old model.

I take it this is a typo. Is it the EH50 in the lounge that's giving the ghosting?

Are the E10's AV1 and AV2 settings (in the Setup screen) the same as the EH50's?

I'm beginning to think you ought to try a replacement EH50.

Has anyone else got any suggestions?

You state that you have disconnected pin 19 on the scart plug, was this just done at one end, if so, did you try a check with reversing the scart lead after you done that? (not necessary if done at both ends!)

The reason I ask this is, when a disconnection is only done at one end its possible to still get the problem if the source of the trouble is coming from the end still connected. (cross induction)

Not saying it is that, but its something to be considered.

edit: Re: pin 19 again, apart from trying what was suggested, was it the Freeview to DVD lead that you done this on, and are you using RGB connection's?

So much for Ixos cables.

Anyway, pleased to hear you've solved the problem. And well spotted JB38.
