Panasonic DMR-EH60DEB - Removing Subtitles!!!

Hi everybody,

I have a Panasonic DMR-EH60DEB DVD recorder which I'm really impressed with but there is something that I just cannot work out.

I recorded Scanners last night off BBC1 and when I play it back it has subtitles pasted all over the screen.

I have supposedly gone through all the setup screens in an attempt to turn them off but can't seem to do so. In the main Setup screen, I can only set subtitles to "Automatic" as there doesn't seem to be an "Off" option.

When playing the film back (off the harddrive), I press the "Display" button on the remote and it states that subtitles are turned off but they still appear.

I can't believe that the BBC would broadcast programs with the subtitles burnt into them so it must be down to the setup of the recorder.

In contrast to this, I have been recording Top Gear on BBC2 and this never has subtitles so I'm not sure what's going on.

I would really appreciate it if anyone can help as it's driving me mad because it's ruining alot of recording.

Thanks,

Chris Nightingale

There's a subtitle (STTL) button at the bottom of the remote control. It's supposed to switch them on and off during viewing, but it may be that the recording was made with the subtitle switched on (or Auto as you mention). I have an Auto & Off option when setting a timer on mine, but I've not been into the setup menu to see what other options there are.

When you have recorded the programme (through the TV guide?), I suspect you have had the STTL option switched on. That burns them in and they can't be removed.

Hi there,

Thanks for that guys. Yes I did record it through the TV Guide section but I didn't make note of that STTL setting. I will check this next time I attempt to record something.

Just checked and yes I was stupidly setting the STTL option to on. I thought it was the "Start recording when program actually started" option.

Well thank you for correcting my very silly mistake!!!

Thanks again,

Chris Nightingale
