DVD Recorder or Sky+?

Pretty new to DVD recorders and am just looking into maybe getting one.

However, I was also thinking about upgrading to Sky+.

Is there a function on any recorders that work with your sky box to change the channel automaticaly, or would you have to leave your sky on the channel you want to record?

Any help would be great, have been looking at several retailler websites but couldnt find any relevant details.

Not looking to spend a fortune, and if possible wouldn't want to spend more than the cost of an upgrade to the sky+.

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers,

Jason

You can not compare a SKY+ box with a DVD recorder.

Sky+ is a PVR or as close to a PVR that Sky can get to, iut have a twin tuner, which means you can record one channel while watching the other or record two channels while watching something from the hard drive. You can not do that with a DVD recorder, even with the ones with a built in Hard drive.

Some DVD recorders uses Guide plus, which allows the recorder to change the channels on a Sky box, but the Sky box must be out of standby.

I have got a Pioneer DVR-530H-S, which is a great machine, it have got guide plus and a nice big 160GB hard drive.

The main reason why I will not get a SKy + box is because I do not see why I should have to pay an extra £10 a month just to record and also if I decided to drop Sky, then I have got a box, which is more or less useless.

At least with the DVD recorder, I can use it to record from the Freeview box as well.

As for which is the best one to get, well it depends what you want it to do.

I would recommend both really. Although it does depend on how many programmes you like to archive.
Best combination is SKY+ and a DVD Recorder with HDD.
Anything that you record onto SKY+ and wish to archive, simply use the copy facility and record onto the DVD Recorder HDD overnight. You can then edit the programme until your hearts content and high-speed dub it to your blank disc.
