Future technology compatability

Before i buy a dvd recorder i am wondering just how quickly things will move on and outdate my machine. My main question regards discs. Do the current systems have the facility to record dual layer disks??

No - none of the current machines can record dual layer DVDRs.

The current batch of DVD recorders will have a reasonably short lifespan - the new optical formats are fast approaching. But that's not to say your equipment will become 'out of date' - just that if you only upgrade every 4 or more years then the odds are that your next recorder will be BluRay/HD-DVD rather than DVD-RAM/-RW/+RW. Certainly there are some excellent machines available now that will last a good many years...
