which is the best buy- denon 1940 / oppo 980H
Hi all,
I was thinking of getting the oppo 980H, but have now seen that the denon 1940 is available for around £150. I listen to sacd / dvda more than watching dvd`s, so with that in mind, which is going to be the best option please.
Thanks in advance..

Oppo 980 without a doubt. It is unbeatable at that price range. Cheers

It costs a lot more but the Sony XA5400ES sounds much better than the Oppo 980H for SACD but of course it does not play DVD A

Re: which is the best buy- denon 1940 / oppo 980H
The Sony costs at leasts £1000, probably a lot more, does not play DVD-A nor normal DVD's.
This clearly does not meet the OP's original question and it is in my view a completely inappropriate suggestion.
I would also suggest unless you have a similarly priced amplifier and speakers the sound quality between the Sony and the Oppo would be negligible.
You don't happen to have shares in Sony?

Re: which is the best buy- denon 1940 / oppo 980H
Thanks for the quick replies , appreciated. My chain of thought here is that the denon originally sold for around £400, now is the sacd/dvd-a playback still going to be better than the oppo, even though they are now both in the same price bracket .
Thanks again for the replies.

Re: which is the best buy- denon 1940 / oppo 980H
Ordered my DV 980H on thursday, arrived Friday lunchtime. Best piece of advice I have had in ages. Brilliant, I have never heard my sacd`s sound so good. I was using a pioneer dv-600 before, but this just blows it out of the water. Set up was quick and easy to do. Even my ordinary cd`s sound better, going through the amp/receiver and out via prologic II which turns it into 5.1 basically.
Thanks again for the advice and anyone else thinking of getting one, you won`t be disappointed.
