Unhappy Problem with Tosh SD220e and dvd-r

I've a problem with my Tosh SD220e and dvd-r disks. I can hear the sound but the screen just shows the bottom half as green and the top half as distortion. Funny thing is dvd-r x1 disks in my collection play ok, its only the later x4 disks that seem to give me problems.

Any one got a fix?

I'm not recording myself, but getting from other people. Have tried two or three different sources, but no joy
