Thanks: Gave 0, Got 0 | multi-region DVD player?
Hello DVD expert type people!
I really need your help, I have an old panasonic s27 dvd player, which i assumed was multi-region because in the setup menu you can toggle between pal and NTSC... now Ive just bought a load of region one NFL DVDs from the states, thinking they would work on my player if I changed the output to NTSC.. sadly it just tells me disc is not compatible in your region...
now Im pretty sure that there is nothing I can do with this DVD player re. hacks having trawled the web for codes...
SO, my next plan is just to buy a new DVD player that is capable of playing region one DVDS that have enhanced regional coding or whatever it is (they are made by warner bros, and amazon said they use this extra security measure..)
Does anybody have any tips what DVD player to buy? Also I have a Sony kdl32v4000 LCD telly.. I am assuming this is compatible with NTSC discs (I read somewhere that some TVs wont support it?)
if anybody can help, or make any sense of the above ramblings, I would be most grateful...
thanks!
Ben

Hi Ben
I don't think you will have any problems displaying an NTSC source on your Sony.
Hackable region free players start from about £15 (Asda cheapie). I have palyed with one of these and it plays all my region 1 discs. Spend more money and you should be able to improve on picture quality. Philips players are hackable from the remote so something like the DVP5980/5990 (£60)play Divx, mps etc and have an HDMI socket with upscaling to 1080p.
It all depends on how much you want to spend.

Superfi (and other suppliers if stated) do this multi-region upgrade for you with the Sony so it is multi-region when you receive it from them. So, if you want this player multi-region then purchase it from a supplier stating it is supplied multi-region.
Oh, and IMHO, its a good'un !

The remote for the Sony 708 is shown in the manual if you want to check which buttons and layout it has - hope this link works, if not just go through the sony site to download the manual: http://pdf.crse.com/manuals/3283151111.pdf
The remote is labeled RMT-D175p - I found this one on ebay: Sony DVD Remote Control RMT-D175P (brand new) on eBay, also, DVD Remote Controls, DVD Home Cinema, Consumer Electronics (end time 21-Dec-08 04:48:06 GMT)
