SD player as good or better than HD E1 on upscaling?

Hi all,

posted a thread on the HD side and wondered if anyone in this SD side can help me too.

Have really been happy with the superb upscaling of my Toshiba HD E1 HD DVD player but now have the new Sanyo Z2000 PJ, and as the PJ is so quiet now find the fans on the E1 a little intrusive.

Am looking for a SD player without fans but has to be the same upscaled picture quailty as the E1.

Anyone know of one i could safely go for?
Or has anyone bought a SD player that matched their E1?

Thanks very much all.

Take a look at the Oppo 983...
Regarded highly.
Large thread here on it.

Re: SD player as good or better than HD E1 on upscaling?

Thanks, but its too much money just for an SD,

Will be spending no more than £150 and TBH the 980h looks like a strong candidate,
can you give me your opinion on yours ?
Does it pillarbox 4:3?

Thanks.

The 980H is an excellent player, superb picture.
And it does pillarbox 4:3, if you want it to. Depends on what setup options you select in the menu.

Best to review the large thread here on the 980H to see how it compares to other models.
