Up-scaling DVD player for HD Ready (not full HD) TV

Apologies if this is showing my naivety and lack of understanding of the technology involved.

I've just bought a Samsung LE-40A456 which is not full 1080p HD. I'd like to get an upscaling DVD player for it.

I am therefore assuming that there would be little point in buying a player such as the Samsung DVD-F1080 or Sony DVP-NS78 which upscales to 1080p. Would i be better off a slightly older model that only supports 1080i/720p such as Samsung DVD-HD870?

any advice/opinions would be gratefully received
Thanks!

What's your budget?

If around/just above £50 look at the DVD player in my sig, Its got good reviews on here and amazon, etc...

Thought you could buy a DVD player with no upscaling built in and let your panel do the work

Re: Up-scaling DVD player for HD Ready (not full HD) TV

Thanks for that. Lots of positive reviews for your player from what i can see, sounds pretty good.

My budget is up to about £70 for a player + HDMI cable.

But from what you're saying the TV will do the upscaling job itself with a normal DVD player?
Does this mean i might as well get a "normal" DVD player which woudl presumably work out alot cheaper, meaning i can spend more on films?

Yes you can do that, however I personally have never used a non-upscaling player on my HD screens so don't know how good/bad the results are... currently I just get my player to upscale and it goes via the amp and on to the TV without any further processsing.

Go into a store and see if you can demo two players with the same disk/screen.

Good luck
