Marantz DV7001......

What are the owners general impressions on this player and how did it compare with other players you might have auditioned. Also is there anywhere online that will supply me with this dvd player?I can't seem to locate a dealer with stock nearby?

Many thanks.

Re: Marantz DV7001......

The oppo 983 should be better and cheaper too, i think somepeople had problems with the DV7001 although it was a great player and good on the audio side.

Re: Marantz DV7001......

I have one. I auditioned it against the Denon 2930 and Denon 1930 and with my projector (720p) had the same upscaling abilities but far superior sound - both with DVDs and CDs. THis result did surprise me as the 2930 has a superior upscaling chip but I couldn't see a difference with my projector.

Some people on this list (e.g. Barzo) have had issues with the Marantz I think when upscaling US DVDs to 1080p. (Please feel free to correct this). I have not seen this issue on my machine but that maybe because I am not feeding a 1080p signal into a 1080p machine.

I think it's a great buy and would be better than the Oppo for sound - especially if you are using it to play CDs with as well.

I would suggest trying it out with a set up as close to your own as possible with other DVD players and see how it performs.

Another option you might want to consider is the PS3 as it will also give you Blu-Ray capability. I think the Marantz has a slightly better picture than the PS3, plays CDs far better but the PS3 does give you Blu-Ray playback and networking ability (i.e. playing video files on your computer through your TV). However, the PS3 is not a multi-region DVD player unlike either the Marantz or I believe the Oppo (although someone will need to confirm the Oppo being MR). The PS3 40GB player appears to be going for just under £300 at the moment which I think is slightly cheaper than the Oppo.

Re: Marantz DV7001......

I think this is a stunning machine, better than the Denon 2930 and far superior to the Denon 1930 it replaced - although it should be at the price. Like many others who bought this player the main criteria was to provide the best of both worlds for use as a dvd and cd player. For audio the DV7001 really excels, which was the clincher for me.

Picture quality is also superb, the only drawback is I do have the R1 HDMI issue which gives occasional picture dropout. If you have a lot of R1 dvd's I would probably look elsewhere.

Can't help on the online supplier question, although I'm sure I saw the DV7001 advertised for £420 online somewhere a few weeks ago.

Re: Marantz DV7001......

Thanks for the replies.....i went ahead and managed to track down a black DV7001 at a local store (£500).PQ is fantastic....i had reservations about this amount of dosh on an sd player, but compared with the philips 5980 i was using the difference is truly amazing.I am now rediscovering my dvd collection.I also bought a couple of multi-channel SACD discs and found SQ incredible. You need 5.1 analogue cables for that.

Marantz DV7001 vs Arcam vs Denon

I'm in the market for a SD DVD player.
I've just bought an Arcam AVR300 receiver.
My main interest is 2 channel audio, is the DV7001 as good as (or better) than say a used Arcam DV78 or 88?
How about Denon 2930, better, worse?

So I'm actually asking Arcam 78/88 vs DV7001 vs Denon 2930 which is better for audio (music) .

I am assuming that video playback to a SD TV will be exceptional with all players.

Memnon.

Re: Marantz DV7001......

We (my wife and I) auditioned the Denon 2930 and the Marantz pure on stereo sound and we personally found quite the opposite of the above opinions. The Marantz sounded dull while the Denon gave us the feeling that we were actually at a live performance .....I guess this shows the importance of going out there and listen for yourself .....the main distinguishing factor!

Re: Marantz DV7001......

Can't comment on the 2930 but i had a 1930 then a dv6001 before striking lucky and finding a £350 dv7001 thru ebay. The 1930 sucked in comparison(nasty, grainy pictures) and the step up in PQ from 6-7001 was staggering. Can't wait to see the upscaled pics on my new full HD tv coming tomorrow. The image it produces even on my current sammy LE32r74bdx is simply perfect, no noise fab overall - one happy bunny!

Re: Marantz DV7001......

I just picked up one in the last week. I decided it would be the last DVD player I buy before jumping on the HD bandwagon fully in a couple of years time. I already had a 1940 and wanted something that could play DVDs and CDs well. My first impressions were mixed - I was a little wary that I spent £480 compared with the £170 for the Denon. Its run in now and I'm more than happy. So much depends on the DVD transfer - when you get a good one its fantastic. CDs sound great but I've found the digital connection thru to my Arcam AVR280 sounds more 'upfront' than the analog so far.

It does however take a while to load any disc and the disc tray seems a little flimsy for a high end player ...

Re: Marantz DV7001......

I've been running the DV7001 for a few months now and I'm still really impressed with the performance. The picture quality is excellent and motion tracking is really smooth; better than my old Denon 2800 mk11, better than a Ps3 upscaled (just) and the CD music quality is stunning for DVD player. I think it sounds better than my old Marantz CD63 mk2. Highly recommended.

Re: Marantz DV7001......

The region 1 HDMI 1080p dropout issue was fixed with firmware v9 too. Well done the good chaps at Marantz.
