Question Upscaling DVD player to go with 42PX80

Hello,

I am relatively new to this section of the forum. After spending considerable time in Plasma forum and getting myself one in the end, i am now looking for getting a DVD player to go with my Panasonic PX80. With Viera link feature at the disposal to be used, what kind of DVD player should i go for? Panasonic? If yes, which one? Should i consider bluray player or not?

This is quite difficult to decide and i am seeking help from experts here! Hope i can get some good help.

Get a PS3, blu ray, excellent dvd play back and it plays games, all for £300. You have spent all that time finding the right HD plasma, give it some HD material to do it justice.

Re: Upscaling DVD player to go with 42PX80

Fortunately or then unfortunately, i dont play games at all. So PS3 is out of question especially missus suspects that getting PS3 is the start of my gaming life!

Budget would be €150. Any options within this price range? Anyone knows how good this Sony DVD Player DVP-NS78HB? Good with upscaling? Any experiences with this?

Re: Upscaling DVD player to go with 42PX80

I can recommend the Philips DVD5980/05, it plays everything that I have tried and the upscaling picture is excellent. It plays DIVX/XVID files from disc or USB. It upscales to 1080P and plays all DVDs in the correct aspect ratio, it can also be made multi-region. Before this I tried the Sumvision Pheonix Premiuim, Philips DVD5960/05 and a cheap Asda Dual 1080P dvd player but this one is far better than all of them. (Avoid the Sumvision player like the plague it is terrible).

If I had to name one fault it would be that it doesn't automatically switch over to the DVD player when i turn it on I have to manually turn my TV over, this is only a minor niggle on an overall excellent DVD player.

Thank you very much for your recommendation.
If the player is connected to HDMI1 of the TV, i think the television does the switchover automatically. I dont think the switchover is controlled by the player. Atleast that should be the case with PX80. What TV do you own? What do you think about the switchover?

Re: Upscaling DVD player to go with 42PX80

I have a Samsung LE40M86 TV. As far as I'm aware, but I am not certain, the player has to be HDMI CEC compatible to switch the TV over and will even turn the player off when you turn the TV off, my TV is compatible with this but the DVD player isn't hence the manual switchover. (if this is not right then someone may be able to correct me)
