Dvd/divx Upscaling Player Advice For A Newbie

Hi all

I intend to buy a new dvd player soon.

I would like it to

a) upscale to 1080p as i have a 1080p TV.
I don't know if there's much difference between between 1080p and
1080i given my viewing distance of about 12 feet from a 40 inch TV-if not I would consider a 1080 i upscaler

b) play divx/avi -crucial as i watch a lot of divx/avi films.
with subtitle support if possible

c) decode DTS and DD - dont know if this is necessary as my amp decodes
this type of sound.

d) have both optical and digital coaxial outputs - or at least optical.

e)support Bravia Sync which, I think, lets me use one remote for my TV and
DVD player - but this is not crucial.

f) be black as this would blend in with my TV and surround sound system -
this is not crucial as i could live with silver.

My current set up is a SONY 40 inch bravia TV (KDL40D3500) and a Sony HTSF 1100 speaker and amp package.

My budget is about £80.

I would appreciate any advice.

Thanks

Terry H

How about the DVP-NS78?

It doesn't have optical out, but does have a co-axial output and would appear to tick most of your boxes there, including 1080p.

I'm running one on my 32" Sony (1080i), and the picture quality is superb from SD disks.

The black version is currently £71.70 inc on Amazon.

Re: Dvd/divx Upscaling Player Advice For A Newbie

Infiltraitor

Thanks for this suggestion . I've had a look at the reviews on Amazon which are very favourable with regard to upscaling the only downside is that a few reviewers have had problems with Divx playback with the DVP-NS78 which is putting me off as I have quite a few DIVX movies.

Can anyone let me know of there experience with DIVX playback with the
DVP-NS78 or suggest another model that is not tempremental with DIVX.

Re: Dvd/divx Upscaling Player Advice For A Newbie

The best player for divx Ive had was my Phillips 5960. There is a newer 1080p version the 5980. If you predominately use divx/avi then the Phillips if you use DVD then the Sony would be the way I would go.

The French are the leaders in terms of dvix demands from customers and the available player. Have a look here:-

Peekton are an excellent make if you can find one in the UK:-

Have a look here for divx compatability:-
