And the next contender is...

This forum has gone a bit quiet since HD DVD bit the dust, but the good news is the mighty Tosh are soon to release a new dvd player with superduper upscaling capabilities that puts SD dvds on a par with Bluray

Quote from Mr Nishida CEO Toshiba:
If you watch standard DVDs on our players, the images are of very high quality because they include an "upconverting" feature. And we're going to improve this even more, so that consumers won't be able to tell the difference from HD DVD images. The players would be much cheaper than Blu-ray players too. Next-generation DVD players are in a much weaker position than when standard DVD players were first introduced.

You have to laugh, no wonder HDDVD died....and I've got rid of a lot of SD DVDs over the last couple of years and replaced with blu and red)

Its a backwards step but it seems blu ray will have another war on its hands before it becomes mainstream

Great. Now I'll have to replace all my Blu-rays with DVDs

No, but I've just watched the start of "Revenge of the Sith" on a 3m projected screen from a Panasonic S97 upscaling DVD player thru HDMI and that was absolutely stunning....looked and sounded better than some hd discs I own.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder not the marketing man

Re: And the next contender is...

What a load of complete rubbish. No wonder HD-DVD lost out if the main backers come out with this sort of nonsense.

Anyway, this forum is for the discussion of HD/BD Movies not players, so moving to the DVD players forum.
