Can't connect my USB key on Philips DVP5980

Hi,
I just bought the Philips DVP5980, hoping to be able to play DivX films from my USB key. It is a Sandisk Cruzer Micro 4GB, a model recognized as valid for this DVD player.

However, whenever I try to plug it in, I get the message "device not supported". I tried to plug every single USB device I had, from my Ipod to my external Hard Drives, I always get that same message.

Now, I'm working on Mac OSX, and I never installed the drivers that came with my USB key, because they were only Windows compatible. So it could be that my Sandisk key was not formatted properly to be able to run on the DVD player.

Can anybody help me?
Thanks.

Re: Can't connect my USB key on Philips DVP5980

I just set up my new 5980 and tried to use the same USB stick (Sandisk Cruzer Micro 4GB) and got the same message

Funny thing is that this stick has worked like a dream on my 5960 for months! I thought this was basically the same model with 1080p upscaling?

Re: Can't connect my USB key on Philips DVP5980

Just tried my Lacie 500Gb HDD which seems to work fine, as it does on my 5960.

I'd love to get the USB stick working though, especially as I bought another one a few weeks ago feeling confident that it would work fine on the 5980

DId you update the firmware to the latest. It fixed the HDMI audio issue Dont know about the USb support as well. Divx seems to play back more smoothly now.

Re: Can't connect my USB key on Philips DVP5980

I have downloaded the latest firmware from Philips but haven't updated yet. It seems to have two .bin files. Is this OK? Never had to use two before when updating firmware on other players?

I might just go for that Play.com key. I'll take a look. Thanks

Re: Can't connect my USB key on Philips DVP5980

there were 2 bin files I think. Just follow the instructions here

http://www.p4c.philips.com/cgi-bin/d...05_fur_eng.pdf

and note down the firmware that you have before upgrading(just in case things go wrong)

Re: Can't connect my USB key on Philips DVP5980

I had the same problem with my sandisk cruzer but when i unintalled the software on the usb stick I got the dvd player to recognise the device. It was a bit tricky but you have to uninstall all the sandisk software on the device before the dvd player will recognise the stick.

Hope this helps

How do you go about uninstalling the software? Do you just delete all the files on it?

I have a Sandisk Cruzer Micro 4GB and it worked out of the box with my 5980 which arrived yesterday. Most odd.

Do you still have the U3 stuff on it? Does the player have a new firmware version?

Ahhh, good man, i've had a hell of a time trying to get sound via an HDMI connection, i get picture, but no sound, i now think this is due to the machine not having the latest firmware installed, thanks for that, btw how do i find out which version is on the player just now?
And how do i update the frirmware, many thanks.............

Removing all the files or formatting the stick doesn't help.

Select in the program menu "settings". It lets you choose from 2 options, select the upper settings menu. It opens a menu where you need to click "uninstall". Then just follow the steps. That's how I got it work.
