Thanks: Gave 0, Got 0 | CD Audio playback on DVD player (I need new dvd player)
Hey,
First, I don't know anything about dvd players and all those options. Also I surfed around in the forums but I didn't find the answers so here is this post then. To tell you how bad it is, I don't even know what HDMI is...
Here go's.
First important question. Is there a DVD player that can play normal audio cd's with the same quality as a normal cd player like a Yamaha?
Now what am I really looking for:
At home I have a nice Marantz 5.1 amp with Mission speakers and a REL sub. I bought this because I also want to listen to music cd's in good quality. I play now cd's with a normal Yamaha cd player, but if their is a dvd player that can do this with the same quality I can take out the black cd player (amp is silver). I have now a dvd player also from Yamaha and even my girlfriend can hear the difference in quality when playing music either on the dvd or the cd player.
But now my dvd player starts break down so I need a new one but what should I buy. I don't know??
At this time I can't record anything from TV so it should be able to record some stuff from tv.
If possible it should play audio cd's at the same quality as a normal cd player.
Then there is this digital and analog tuner stuff and what so ever????
At home I'm watching tv through normal cable. I can if I want go digital but then I need a special decoder from my cable company. My tv is an older wide screen CRT tv. So no modern plasma or LCD yet. It will come but not for now but the dvd player should be future proof...
So you see, I can really use some help. Because in the shops, you can not thrust all salesman, and surely not in the shops close to my home. I don't want to come home with a washing machine instead of dvd player-recorder.
In the meanwhile I will look some further to links where all different things like HDMI are explained...
Thanks already,
Kibosh

Hi Kibosh,
I'd recommend you phone a local Hi-Fi dealer, (note the inference to a Hi-Fi dealer, not a high street Currys etc), tell them what you've got and what you're looking for and they will arrange a demo, followed up by letting you take home for a trial the piece of kit you like the best.
All the best,
Neil.

If you want to record stuff from TV either upgrade you cable to one of the PVR options they have, an alternative is get a digital aerial installed and buy a freeview PVR. I'd personally keep the yamaha CD Player you have for CD's, I just bought another Marantz 5400 CD Player to setup in my dining room, I've had plenty of good DVD players through the years but still find I can't top the sound I get from a dedicated player.

Thanks already for the reply's
In Belgium we have the problem that there isn't a lot of competion in providers of digital tv on the cable. For example when you take telenet you need their decoder. And you can't record anything or you have to buy their more expensive one with HD. But for the price of that thing you have a decent dvd recorder. So for me, digital tv is out of the question for now. Also digital tv is without 5.1 here so I don't see the point yet.
I looked up that Cambrigde Audio and Arcam. They both look like decent players but also they don't have recorders. The same as Denon and Marantz. Is there a good brand like them that do have a recorder?
I know Pioneer and Sony are getting good points also, but I'm worried about the sound quality. At the sites of Marantz and Denon you see the info about the audio DAC's they are using but you can't find that with Pioneer or Sony. Maybe one of you guy's know this?
PS: I'll be out for two weeks to Laos which doesn't have the best internet, so forgive me if I don't reply. This link is off course added to my favorites so the minute I'm back I'll check everything.

Kibosh | IMHO, a decent DVD player (such as the Denon 2930/3930 or Marantz DV7001) will give you the same audio quality as a normal CD player. The usability of a CD player may be better, though.

Ok guy's, thx for the help.
Finally I ordered the Marantz DV6001, the 7001 was too expensive for me.
After some research I found out that a recorder is useless in Belgium if I want to go digital. The cable company's decode the signals so you are forced to buy a recorder from them
When I get it I will try to remember to post my findings of the audio. It will be compared to the Yamaha 5cd changer.
Greetings,
Kibosh

Similar question but I only want playback, not record function. Are there any 'budget' options that provide good CD audio playback, preferably with the ability to upscale to 720p over component (or HDMI at a push).
