upscale DVD player

Can you advice please?

I have a Pioneer 436 SXE 1080i plasma and have a collection of DVDs which I enjoy. I am also thinking of Blue ray but do not have any BR discs. I admit I have a cheapo Toshiba DVD player which cost about £50.

I want to enjoy best picture from my DVDs and will continue to buy DVDs in the future.

So-

my short list is

1. Oppo 981HD
2. Wait for oppo 983(a couple more months may be)
3. PS3

and Oppo HDMi switcher as I have only one HDMI input.

What do you suggest? Will oppo983 make any difference over 981 on my pllasma? or PS3 upscale is good enough and plays blue ray too?
