Juddery image on new dvd player

Morning all
Settled down lat night to watch the first series of the wire on a brand new Philips 5960 dvd player. From the start the image would shudder every minute or so almost like the player was spinning at slightly different speeds. The audio seems perfect.
I have the dvd player HDMI upscaling set on auto. The screen is a PH10 and the audio is connected directly to an AVR300.
I have 2 HDMI cables connected to one automatic switcher. The HDMI cables and the switcher are cheap as chips. Theres no problem watching sky through the HDMI switcher.
Can anyone point me in the right direction??????????????

Re: Juddery image on new dvd player

Why not try and connct the DVD player directly to the panel by HDMI and see if the problem still exists....that would be the first troubleshooting step that I would take.

EDIT: What resolution is the DVD player upscaling to?

Re: Juddery image on new dvd player

Hi
The dvd player HD setting is at automatic.
I'll bypass the switcher and take it from there. Thanks for the suggestion.

Re: Juddery image on new dvd player

Right
Bypassed the switcher and changed all the HDMI cables. The image still shakes.
Looks like it is a problem with the dvd player. I have a spare component board which i can plug into the plasma and try.

Re: Juddery image on new dvd player

Swapped the dvd player for a new one, same problem with jitter.
Changed the HDMI from auto to 720p and it works fine.
Alls well that ends well!!!!!!!!!!
