Well, the iso image is just a image copy of a DVD. If that image contains
a valid DVD-Video structure, the end result should be the same as it would
if you burned a DVD-VIDEO (VIDEO_TS dir, vob-files,etc) in Nero.
It should play fine in that case.

That's ok then. Thanks for replying to this, wouldn't have wanted to get this player if it didnt play these type of files. I have been directed towards the Oppo as well but I have previously owned a Pioneer DV656 which was a quality player, so I think the Pioneer has my vote.

Thanks again.

Re: Pioneer DV600 - Are there any online reviews?

I purchased a DV600 last weekend along with a new Onkyo 505 AV reciever, both of which have now been connected upto my Samsung 1080p LCD Screen.

The quality of the picture when being upscaled to 1080p is nothing short of brilliant, I know its not totally on par with a true HD source but watching Blood Diamond last weekend blew me away. Its menus and settings arw simple to operate, and the DIVX playback is simple to use. I put a DIVX version of The Terminal onto my Creative Nomad 1GB USB MP3 player and plugged it into the USB port on the front, the DV600 new that it was plugged in and to put it simply just worked, no bother at all.

I'm by no means an expert and I'm sure many people will have their own opinions and thoughts on this DVD player but in my humble opinion its worth every penny. It looks and feels 100% better than the Samsung 870p and does a brilliant job of injecting new life into your old SD DVD collection.

Sadly not everyone can afford to spend the national debt of a small country on their equipment and update it ever other year. I am one of these people who cannot, so I try to but things that are within my price range and I am happy with the DV600 and Onkyo 505 have made me feel a successful purchase was made and Im well chuffed.

Re: Pioneer DV600 - Are there any online reviews?

I was all set to buy either the 490 or 600

Until i read this review, which makes it sound terrible. However all the other reviews I have read have all been very positive. What do other people think?

The Pioneer DV-490V comes across as a frustratingly half-baked player. If we lived in an NTSC-only country, this would be a good upscaling DVD player with great speed and only a few issues, all of which could probably be justified by the cheap price.

The reality however, is that the average European consumer will have a collection that consists mainly of PAL DVDs with perhaps the occasional NTSC one. In this regard, the DV-490V is unacceptable and should not have been released to a European market with the "Dual PureCinema Progressive" branding intact.

Do Richer Sounds have the sliver version, I can only see the black version on their website?

Can I ask where you did the price match against?

The Pioneer DV-490V comes across as a frustratingly half-baked player. . .
And a discontinued, half-baked one, at that. The DV-400 has been out for a month or so now, and that is the one to compare with the competition like Sony NS-78, Philips 5980, Samsung 870.

The DV-600 is only a bit more expensive, but potentially much better, since it has different audio at the very least (don't know about video and PAL handling). In any case, it'd be crazy to dismiss the 600 based on a review of the 490!

The other night, I watched "The Day After Tomorrow", R2 PAL edition,
on my DV-600 and it looked great.
The DV-490 reviewed is an older generation player.
The DV-400 is the current replacement model for the DV-490.

I just phoned up Total Digital and they only have silver. Local to me so it's a shame they didn't have any black. Doh.

Re: Pioneer DV600 - Are there any online reviews?

Hi,

I am a bit new to all this HD and upscaling stuff, and not a big expert in terms of the technical details. I have just bought a Philips 32inch LCD TV that goes up to 1080i. I'm thinking about getting a dvd player to upscale my SD dvds. I quite like the look/sound of this one (Pioneer DV600) that can upscale to 1080p.

At the risk of looking like a EDIThead, will dvd players that upscale to 1080p be compatible with my 1080i TV?

Thanks.
