Thanks: Gave 0, Got 0 | Dvd players with built in 5.1 decoder - are they still made?
My Cambridge Audio DVD 53 has started playing up. As it gets to the last 15mins or so of a film it starts stuttering. So need a new player but as the title suggests I need one with built in 5.1 decoder. Can anyone recommend one? I've looked around on the web at various shops none of them give full spec (or certainly the sites I'm browsing).
Player has to have 5.1 built in (alternatively called 5.1 analogue out) as my receiver only allows 5.1 "throughput". You get my drift.
I know some HD DVD players have 5.1 analogue out but I just need a cheapish (sub£100) player.
Help anyone? Either players themselves or decent AV websites that offer full specs on their goods.
Cheers.

Sure looks a nice player mate but I've just found the manual for it on the web and it doesn't have 5.1 analogue outputs. Only has left and right analogue outs (as far as I could see from the socket set up on the back).
Maybe I didn't describe what I need more clearly.
My receiver isn't a bonafide Dolby Digital receiver (Yamaha RX-V393RDS), but it does have 6 (5.1) channel input if the dvd player has 6 channel analogue output. The players were quite commonplace a few years ago but it seems are like rocking horse **** now.
The easiest option would be for me to get a new receiver/amp with full digital inputs and bonafide 5.1 etc but my Yamaha is a cracker and a new amp is a more expensive option.
My Cambridge Audio was only £60 brand new a two years ago so the players can't be that expensive.
Thanks for the help though bud.
"edit" found some more info on the player and definately doesn't have 5.1 channel analogue outputs.

Hi brown rhino, I have a RX-V395RDS and use a Panasonic s75 I bought off e-bay (I have two). I know it's s/hand but maybe that's the way we have to go with these receivers.
Another thought, machines that play DVD-A and SACDs have 6 analogue outputs, will these do the job.
Good luck.

I'll have a look Tuddy cheers. Maybe getting a proper amp/receiver is the answer. That way it makes no difference what dvd player I buy. I really like my Yamaha though. And unfortunately if I do get a bona fide amp I still need to fork out for the dvd player coz it's still gonna stutter. I'll wait and see if anyone else can help while still trawling the net.
You know, just to offshoot, if manufacturers (more specifically shops and stores) showed a photo of the back of their machines as well as the front (and let's be honest, most dvd players look the bloody same) my task would be so much easier.
Cheers guys. I'll keep persevering.

If you do get a new recevier & player brown rhino at least you'll have less cables to contend with. I got everything connected and am too scared to venture there again .

Tuddy, have found a spotless, boxed Panasonic s27 on ebay, very cheap. Can you tell me whether it plays self burnt (on pc and a "standalone" dvd recorder) discs ok?

Tuddy, forget my previous post. Found the manual and this isn't compatible with my receiver for 5.1 surround either. Think I'm just gonna have to bite the bullet and get a new amp and then ALL dvd players in future will be available to me.
And you're right about the wires. There'll be some new swear words invented sorting all that out.
Cheers guys.

Brown rhino, I think (maybe wrong) that the Panny s97 was the s75's replacement(and then the 49) so should have 6 outputs. Must admit my 75s have been perfect, I know that doesn't help you...sorry.
danny.

No worries bud. Just been onto Richer Sounds and they've got a few( Denon, Marantz etc) but they're all in the £180-£299 range. Be more economical for future upgrading to get a new receiver (they've got one with similar spec to my Yamaha, but full 5.1 digital input, for £150) and get myself a budget (£80-£90) player!
My entire range from dvd recorder (£250), player (£60), receiver (£200), cd (£80), speakers (£50 each) and rear-pro' tv (43"-£450) is all kinda budget range so that price for the new gear would fit right in.
Just when there was the holiday to pay for though...

It is 119 retail at Richer Sounds, but you should be a able to find a display for 100 on the clearance section of their website.

Cheers though bud.

As mentioned above, the new Pioneer DV600 has 6.1 audio out and will do exactly what you are looking for, plus can be used with the new amps when you eventually get one - http://www.avland.co.uk/pioneer/dv600/dv600.htm
