can you guys recommend a DVD player

Hello,

I would like to buy a DVD player. can you guys recommend one.

i want to hang on to this DVD player for the next 2 years and want to use it with my LCD HD TV which i am planning to buy sometime later this year.

my wish list is
1. something in the 100 British pound range
2. handles 720p (is that what a regular DVD can/should handle)
3. supports DivX/Xvid, avi, jpegs
4. multi-region
5. HDMI
6. supports bookmarking (would be nice)
7. some hard disk space (would be nice)

you guys think DVD recording is needed?
i don't think multi-disc is needed, what do you guys think?

i think with this feature list, i need to invest twice the amount of money, if i am, can you guys tell me which feature is not really needed.

I guess HDMI would be tield in with progressive scan, if I go for a good progressive scan device, HDMI would be automatically present?

are there different levels of upconverting.

i guess all standard DVD players output 480i, irrespective of location in europe or the US?
does upscaling mean that all of them can upscale to 1080p?

is there a huge difference in cost beetween a non-upconverting DVD player and one that upconverts

i guess a blu-ray will out perform an upscaled 1080i

can you point me to a link which shows the performance difference between 720p and 1080i?

do DVD players come with hard disk space or is that just DVD recorders which come with it?

do the pioneer players use the Faroudja Genesis FLI2310 chip or silicon image SiI504, i have head good reviews of those chips.

do they come with HDMI outputs?

some one recommended an oppo player, what do you guys think of them?

Forgive me...im not meaning to sound rude here,so please dont take offence.

On the one hand you do some name dropping,which can suggest you know what your talking about,then on the other hand you dont appear to possess basic knowledge relating to dvd.

So many questions though.......
Personally,whenever i see so many questions all at the same time....i usually dont want to get involved.

Sometimes its better to ask a couple of questions to start with...and do some searching on your own to find answers to your other concerns. You should be able to find most things on this forum using the search facility.
Then if you really cant find the answers...ask some more questions.

you know some of the better chips like faroudja yet your asking whats around for 100 pounds? sounds like your on doing a consumer survey
