Firmware+Upscaling?

Can anyone tell me what is Firmware in regards to a DVD Player and what is an upscaling player? thanks

firmware is the software in the player so it knows its a dvd player and what it can do

It will contain the graphics and functions etc that make it work.

upscaling, takes a standard resolution e.g dvd picture and resizes it to high definition resolution (number of dots on the screen)
