Up scaling DVD player better than Xbox 360?

Hi guys,

I’m currently using the Xbox 360 to play DVD’s through my Hitatchi 42pd7200. After not being that impressed with the picture quality through the component cable I bought the VGA cable which up scales the picture, it is a big improvement but the black levels really suffers compared to using the component cable.

I was wondering if buying an up scaling DVD player like the Denon 1730 or Panasonic DVD-S52 and using HDMI would bring much of a improvement in picture quality over the Xbox 360?

Cheers

I would say the benefit would be marginal - however the audio should be significantly better if you plump for a £200+ machine

I have been in the same boat. Purchased the OPPO DV-981HD from many good reviews in these forums, hasnt arrived yet so cant comment on upscaling quality, but from what i have heard it`s a massive leap up from dvd through 360

You wouldnt believe how big a leap it is from a 360 until you witness it.

I've posted this in other threads without success, how would a cheap upscaler like the toshiba sd-360e compare to the 360?

Re: Up scaling DVD player better than Xbox 360?

The PQ is good when I'm watching it through the VGA cable but the black levels are awful, but the black levels are fine when watching throught component? The picture is realy grainy through component though, do you reckon one of the above mentioned DVD players will have same if not better pq than Xbox but have improved black levels on a par with watching through component?

Cheers
