Denon 2930 vs 3930

Hi All

I want to buy a top quality CD & DVD player and want to choose between the above models.

The biggest issue I have is that they seem to be relatively the same piece of kit, but the 3930 is built far better and has slightly better processing, but is it seriously £500 better than the 2930!?

I want to upscale my old DVDs and watch them via my Panasonic TH50 px600 and would like to see if anyone thinks that the 2930 would be the best match - especially given that my tv can't take a 1080p feed anyway!

Has anyone had the opportunity to test these machines side by side, by any chance?

Currently I am using a Panasonic DVD recorder to play my DVDs and the results are good using the panel's own scaler but the pic is far from amazing!

I hae both of these machines in store and the 3930 is a far better machine. However if you are looing for a "top quality CD player" then I suggest you look elsewhere as the results from both of these machines is pretty poor. The Arcam DV137 quite comfortably matches the video performance of the 3930 and exceeds it for CD playback by a substantial margin.

Just out of interest - I am deciding between the 3930 and the 137. The 3930 seems better built and more substantial than the 137 - is there a reason for this? The Arcam seems a little ightweight - I realise this is not everything but one looks like a £1000+ player - the other does not. Could you let me know what , in your opinion, makes the Arcam superior?

Would the 5.1 analog output performance quality be identical on these 2 players, and the 1940, or is the 3930 better equipped in the DSP/DAC department ?

Anyone know ?
