.ts on a DVD Player?

Need some help with this if possible. I just bought a new HDTV and DVD player (Sony RDR-HXD860). I would now like to play some HD videos on the TV to see what kind of picture quality it gives. I've downloaded some HDTV demos which are in the file type .ts I can play these fine on my PC with VLC player, but can I play these on the DVD player so i can see them on my TV?

I noob with all this at the moment, so any advice appreciated. Thanks.

You'll need something like a Buffalo AV Link Player to play .ts files.
