Denon1920 better than pioneer 696/sony ns76?

Hi all, just wondering if anyone had seen the picture quality on these players via HDMI? how does the pioneer/sony etc stand up to the more expensive denon? are they on a par these days?

Also, how does the 696 and sony player handle 4:3 dvds when upscaling? does it squeeze the image in like the denons 4:3 squeeze, instead of stretching it to 16:9?

Many thanks.

Very subjectively, The Denon 1920 is better than the Sony

But the Sony is better value for money as the relative PQ quality vs cost are ( for once) In Sonys Favour

The Pioneer Im unfamiliar with

The Denon is the better of the Three... Though you'll find thanks to Cambridge Audio and Harman Kardon that for 200 quid (230 for the Harman Kardon) you can enjoy a very Mid-Fi performance in DVD playback for an entry-level price instead of run-of-the-mill Sony's, Denon's and Pioneers's you mentioned which offer no more than the money you pay.
