Whats difference between PCM and RAW?

My toshiba SD360e can output both but am currently unaware of what the difference actually is?

PCM=Pulse Code Modulation (outputs in 2 channel stereo)

I'm sure someone will be able to give you a far more technical answer but the quick answer is, unless you set your DVD's audio output to RAW(Bitstream) you will not be able to output 5.1 via digital co-ax/optical cable to an AV Amp/Receiver for surround sound (5.1/DTS).
