Thanks: Gave 14, Got 7 | 1920 or other to suit PX60
Hi chaps,
New to this so please don't flame me if I am asking stupid questions
After reading through the Denon 1920 downscales thread (and various others over the past few weeks) I am not sure what unit to buy to connect to a Panasonic 42PX60.
I would like to connect by HDMI as I already have the QED HDMI-P cable. But would a certain DVD player suit the screen more than another?
For example on that mentioned thread there was talk of a Pioneer DVD maybe suiting the Pioneer screen. Would I be better off looking at a Panasonic HDMI dvd player?
If not, I had been thinking about the price range that includes the Denon 1920, Toshiba SD-360E, Pioneer DV696 etc. Any one running a certain set up that works well with this screen that they could recommend?, If it was worth it I could stretch the budget maybe a couple of hundered quid more.
By the way I have a Bose Lifestyle 8 Series 2 to connect to aswell would the DVD player I choose affect the sound quality I hear from this that much?

Sure does
After spending far far too much time today at work looking on here and not actually doing much work I think I'm swaying towards the Sony. Too many people having problems with the Toshiba what with the 5 second pauses and the annoying blue light.
Just out of interest, I can afford the Denon. Would I see an improvement over the Sony with that? Picture and sound through he Bose?

So, would the DVD player I choose affect what I hear through the Bose?
For example, I have been offered a new marantz DV7600 for £400. Will this unit improve on what I hear from the Bose over say, the Denon or even a Marantz 6600 (or even the Sony).
And what connection should I be looking for on the DVD player to make proper use of the 5.1?
(again if i'm asking obvious questions then I apologise )

Tha answer has got to be YES!
But because sound is very subjective you really need to listen first.
One would expect the more expensive machine to have a better sound, but not necessary to YOUR ears!
As for connection, Coax and Optical will both perform on par with each other on distances under a metre, any longer I would use a Coax digital cable.
I prefer Coax to use as it is less sensitive to bending and feels a more solid connection.

knotpc,
Thanks, really tempted by the Marantz now Now just to persuade the missus
I Will try and have a listen first, but it will be difficult to do without actually purchasing one (I mean, who will have a the same Bose hooked up to the same Marantz for me to listen to before buying), so I might just have to pool as much advise as I can from here and then make a decision.
I still haven't decided on the plasma yet, waiting on JL pricematching for me on a Panasonic 42PX60 but then I got my head turned by the the group buy for the PH9. |

I've got a 42PX60 and have tried a Pioneer 696 with it via hdmi... I wasn't that impressed by this combination, so I'd recommend striking the 696 off your list.
You may want to consider getting a good component output player instead of a budget hdmi player. I've gone back to my Pioneer DVR433 via progressive component and the PQ on the 42PX60 is lovely - I much prefer it to the 696 via hdmi.

It's mad isn't it! Some people will use the HDMI connection on that player and get great results. It does seem to depend on what screen you pair it with.
I hear you, and did think about doing it that way. It would certainly save me some money, but just wanted to connect via HDMI. I don't know why really, not just cos i've got the cable .
There should be a good example of a player within my reach that works well with the PX60 via HDMI. I'm hoping the Marantz will be it.

From what I've read on this forum, I'd say either of the Sony players should be a good option... NS76 or NS92.
They seem to have a good reputation for both hdmi and component output, so you could then choose which connection suits you best.
I'm tempted myself by the NS92. (If you were to get an NS92, make sure it has the latest firmware which fixed the picture shift problem!)

i had the same predicament, ive also got a PX60 and only wanted to spend £100 or so on a player.. looked at the usual few. samsung, sony, pioneer etc.. i opted for the panasonic s52 in the end.. got it m/region for 1oo quid and i think the picture through hdmi to the px60 is excellent! |
