When is it worth it?

Would I be right in thinking a good quality Standard DVD player be more beneficial to me with a Sagem 50" DLP (which I hope to get soon) than a budget upscalling DVD player (like the samsung HD-950)? Seeing as the screen upscales everything to 720p anyway.

would my budget of £300-£350 get me something worthwhile? What players can you recommend for that too?
