hdmi encryption?

I have just read a comment somewhere about hdmi carrying copy proectction and encryption. What does all this mean?

I have a couple of my very favourite dvd's backed up to dvd-r's so i dont scratch the originals when playing ( music dvd's i tend to put on often ).

Does it mean if i get an hdmi dvd player that it wont play these as copy protection as gone?

The copy protection you mention applies to HD content only, your "backups" will be fine.
