Red face HELP! Pioneer dv-585a problem

Help!!

I was playing a dvd last night when my player just switched off, (It blew the plug fues about a month ago) couldn't switch it back on until i unpluged it.

When forward to the same place on the disk and it switched off again! Did this about 5 times, proberbly pressing the power on button and other buttons on the front at the same time.

I can't get past this point on dvd without the player switching off so I tried another disk. Now as soon as I power on the disk plays but It says region on the display and players region settings on screen and some numbers. no buttons on the remote work apart from eject I am stumped. Remote works fine once dvd is ejected.

It was purchased multiregion and still shows region 0 when i acess the display option in advanced.

I have tried a reset power and stop button but still get this problem, typical warrenty was up about 3 months ago.

firmware is 1.06

Thanks

Paul

Hi

If you give Pioneer a call explain what happend, I recon they will fix your player up for you.
I think they might even want to have a look at the DVD disc to figure out what was happening.

What Dvd was it?

Yes you have an very old firmware in your DVD.

the problem is, will it let you read an upgrade CD(-RW)

If you go to http://www.pioneerfaq.info/english/dv585.php and click the Burn Guide in the menu ,it will tell you how to make an update CD(-RW)

Thanks for the quick reply, unfortunatly the screen just goes blank with the player region settings displayed after this disc has loaded, it does look like a screen comes up but it goes blank in less than a second.

Best chance is to phone Pioneer and tell them what happend.
I recon they will help you even if the warranty expired. as it is surley is something wrong with the player, that was triggered by the movie.

Give it a go!

Well, I've spoken to Pioneer and to be honest even though they were helpfull they can't be bothered it's out of warranty so I have to pay to have it repaired at a minimum cost of £60 + vat!!

I have ordered a serivce remote 14 day loan for £21 hope this will fix the problem.

Pioneer did say that it needs a service remote to reset the region at the very least, unless it's more terminal!!

Thats a bumer, that they woudnt be helpful.
We should see if my Pioneer are more helpfull.
If you should see an 9 digit number apear on the screen write it up.
Hopefully you will not have to set the ID Data again.

Edit:
I've just spoken to Pioneer,
If you have the Service Remote you will be able to get in to the service menu and restore the region setting. This should make your player fully functional again.

I've just hired a service remote but all that has arrived is a one 4 all remote, when I press the button the dvd turns off but when I switch it back on it's the same.

Trouble is I can't get it to say no disk, as when the tray is in dvd or not it says region and the service remote doesn't seem to do anything than switch the unit off.

If it's under warrenty and it's being repaired by Pioneer, it's highly probable it'll come with the latest firmware from them.
