Snazio & Ethernet HDD
Hi all, 
Quick question for those in the know!
I have one of these ethernet hard drives.
Now I just want to make sure that the Snazio will be able to read from this....
My setup is as follows:
Router>Maxtor 300GB HDD (Hard Wired)
Router>Switch (Hard Wired)
Switch>Snazio (Hard Wired)
Switch>XBOX 360 (Hard Wired)-Not really relevant, but I thought I'd mention it!
I know that the Snazio obviously reads from a USB HDD drive that is connected directly to the front of the unit, (& also that it will stream from my PC both wired & wirelessly) but I just want to make sure that it will read from this external HDD that is connected via ethernet.

It wil read from this drive (or any other) but you'll have to mount it at the computer where you are running the Net Cinema Server soft. You should then be abble to browse it like you would on the computer...

The PC that will have the Snazio software is on another room (connected wirelessly), so that will make streaming from it a no go. 
I was just hoping to read off it via ethernet as opposed to plugging it in via USB on the front of the Snazio....
[Edit]-Also, being that is an ethernet box, I can't physically connect it to my PC.
It's primarily an ethernet HDD with 2 x USB sockets to allow connection of another 2 USB HDDs (or 1 x printer etc etc)

i think he meant you will have to mount the drive from the computer running the cinema server software, not physically attach it it to your computer. the drive should show up as an smb share in 'network places' on your computer and then you should be able to use the software to share the contents of the smb share (thus streaming it via your pc). however you will still have to have the computer running to access stuff from that drive from your snazio, kinda defeating the point of having network-attached-storage over just buying a bigger hdd for you computer.

That sounds like a no go really as effectively streaming from my PC wirelessly is just not going to happen.
Sounds like I'm pretty knackered then?

Just turn your wallet upside down and buy a SnaZio Tera Nas HD Pro...
It wil stream those files without interference of your PC.
It's a bit expensive though.

You're not joking, it's about £450.00 
However much I shake my wallet, ain't no way that much is coming out! 
I'm probably going to return the ethernet HDD & get the 400 gig USB 2.0 drive listed here

Just remember then that ntfs-support on the Snazio is stil in beta...

Good shout, but I think I'm pretty much knackered.
Even though the HDD would be connected to my router via ethernet (the same as the Snazio), it appears that the Snazio will want to talk to the PC that has the media software on it (which is connected wirelessly) & then in turn to the HDD which will be a shared drive of the PC.
So it looks like I'll have to return it & get the 400 GB USB 2.0 HDD that I've seen for £155.00......

just connect the USB HDD to the PC and stream the content to your snazio. As long as you're not using high bandwith HD streams it will be fine.

That's just the issue-most of my stuff is HD, so that makes streaming a no go.

It's something that's not really practical.
The room that the PC is in is at the back of the house, & the router/Plasma/Snazio are all in the front room-I guess I could run an ethernet cable down the side of the house....

If you wanna stream HD you have no choice...
In the new firmware for the Snazio ntfs-support is supposed to be improved so you can stil opt for the usb HDD and connect it via usb. The new firm is due for april...

I have a Linkstation Network HDD. As it;s based in Linuz, I can install Twonkyvision or other such streaming software I believe and stream to Snazzio.
However, I'm waiting for improved DVD playback on the snazio before buy.
