You might have mentioned that before. If it upscales region 1, the upscale system is obviously working and is set up right. By the way, it will only upscale through HDMI, no other input. The fact it won't upscale region 2 has got to be a software problem, (Or it hasn't been set up for multi region correctly) I'm only guessing. I don't know if there is a firmware upgrade for it, you would have to go to the Sony site and fill in their questionnaire help form on this one. Bob

Many thanks for the response, Bob. Apologies, but it was only after I had posted that I thought about trying a R1 DVD to see if that would make any difference.

Having purchased the multi-region player from 'Superfi.co.uk', I guess I'll need to contact them to see what the deal is. I remember reading a post earlier on in this fairly long thread, from another forum member, about exactly the same problem (though he never recieved an answer to his question).

Once again many thanks. If anybody else has come across this problem and managed to fix it, please let me know.

he he, appreciate it, but you shouldn't be thanking me if you haven't had it. It's just that anything I have ever downloaded from any forum, I always drop a pm and thank the person who posted it, and three nice people, who know who they are did. But this reflects the world we live in today, you can hand something to someone in person and not get a thank you, you can hold a door open for someone and they don't even look at you as they walk through, let alone say thank you. I'm sorry wedgehog. I tried to download from the link but seemed to be going round in circles as it keep asking me to join or upgrade the service. Then it gave me a time limit before I could try download again. In the end I gave up

you can download it with the free service. they don't make the place to click on very obvious as it's all geared to make you pay for the premium service, but it is there. I am a premium member so I can't explain the free way, but perhaps someone who has downloaded it free could.

When the site comes up, there is a column which has the heading "Free" at the top and a button with "Free" at the bottom. Click the "Free" button and it will go to a page with a timer, wait for the timer to coundown to zero. You will then go to another page with download sites. Leave it on the default site, unless there are problems with the default site, don't change it. Type the letters/numbers into the "here:" box and then press the Return key and it will start downloading.

BTW sometime 3rd party download managers get in the way and stop the download.

Getting Sky HD on Monday and TV only has the one hdmi connection.

Would others reccommend a hdmi switch or using component for the DVD player?

Component doesnt upscale I believe but presumably the TV would do this.

Just wondered if anyone else has the same set up.

Samsung LE32R73, Sony Ns76h, Logitech Z5450, Sky HD.

Guys, thinking of getting this player to replace an 8yr old Scan DVD player, but wondering is the one you get from Amazon able to be region hacked via a handset code? Keep getting conflicting advice from people saying to buy a Multi-Region one but then I find codes on the web so don't know what to believe?

Monopot - the DVP-NS76H from Amazon states it is region-free capable. However this player has to be unlocked via a programmable infra-red remote (i.e. ALL-4-ONE) not by a handset code.
If you haven't got access to one of these types of handset it is probably worth paying the £10-15 extra to buy from somewhere that offer it already region-free.

Get it from Superfi.co.uk, as it is already multi-region hacked. You will also get very good service from them!

Just got my second 76H player (one upstairs and one downstairs on my main system)... My local Sony Centre was doing it for £89.99 (one left in stock), but picked it up from a local supplier on a price match...

Before I get paranoid... Are some DVDs bad for lip synch issues?

My original 76H (now upstairs running thru RGB Scart) used to have terrible issues when connected via HDMI/coax to my HT-SS1000 system and KDL-40V2500 TV (Audio Synch was set to 20ms to get most DVDs ironned out).

My new 76H player seems a lot happier (Audio Synch set to 0ms - however a few DVDs still need 20-30ms to synch up...)

Is very strange...

Problem DVDs: Se7en (DTS track), Bone Collector (Superbit), Butterfly Effect (Dir Cut), Brothers Grimm, There's Something More About Mary and White Noise - to name a few...

Hi

Is lip synch a problem when the sound is simply output straight to the TV using the HDMI? Or is it when you output the sound to an amp?

I need to know because my Dad wants to buy this player and he doesn't have an external amp and isn't likely to ever buy one.

I've used my 76H connected to a TV via scart and to a projector via HDMI and never noticed any lip synch problems. The test in Digital Video Essentials shows synch to be spot on.

those with lip synch issues have you tried changing the audio settings? I found that when on 96 khz/24 bit it was out but it is fine when I switch it back to 48 khz/16 bit

Hi

Have this DVD player hooked up with component as using HD on Sky.

It is connected to my Amp with coaxial.

However to get audio direct from the TV what do I need.

I was wondering if I could use digital optical straight to the TV rather than phono (red and white). The TV does have this connection.

From reading the manual (which is very technical for me!) I get the impression you have to play around with the settings for this to work. Is this right?

I'm thinking that should the kids or wife want a DVD on without the surround sound they should be able to do this very simply.

If I was doing this I would run the phono (red & white) direct from the DVD to the rear inputs on the TV. This should give you normal stereo sound through your TV speakers when the amp is switched off. Hope this helps.

Aaaaah 74 page thread lol ... can someone with experience of this player please tell me how well it plays divx 6 and xvid (and max resolutions), packed bitstream xvids, and how well it fares with sound (DTS, AC3) etc. also, how well it handles discs of different types like UDF, ISO etc. thanks.
