Tosh SD-350E audio buzzing with HDMI/bitstream???

Hi,

I'm running a Toshiba SD-350E DVD player to a Panasonic 32LXD500. Previously I have used component but have switched to HDMI to free up component for my xbox 360. I have run into a problem where I have a pioneer receiver to output 5.1 via coax and to do this set the audio output to bitstream. Occasionally I will watch DVD's without using the receiver and route the sound through the TV however with HDMI I find that with bitstream the Tv speakers give off a loud buzzing/crackling sound. The only way to stop this is to switch the DVD player to output PCM but then I lose the full audio capability.

Has anyone else come across this and is there a fix?

Thanks

Does your TV have a 5.1 sound decoder? If not, by using PCM you are not loosing any capability because your TV can't reproduce 5.1 digital bitstream...

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. I don't know if the TV has 5.1 capability but presume not as it's not in the manual.

Been playing around today and on the TV itself there is a facility to change the audio setting on the HDMI input in the menu from 'auto' to 'digital' or 'analogue'. Changing to 'analogue' means I can get 2-channel sound thru the TV and use the receiver/coax connection for 5.1 sound so can get around the problem this way.

Hope this is useful for any others with this issue...

Isn't there a menu option on toshiba to choose what type of downmix of 5.1 you output via HDMI while keeping 5.1 bitstream output on coax? You should be able to go 5.2 to coax and downmixed stereo PCM to HDMI simultabeoulsy...damn, HDMI as a connection solution in my view gets worse by the hour...
