Denon 1720 - any good?
Sorry to ask this question as i am sure it has been asked before, but couldn't find decent answer when i searched.
I can't afford the Denon 1920 and put off slightly by the lipsync problems, so was wondering if the Denon 1720 was a good buy at £100 and if it has the same lipsync problems. I don't need to worry about HDMI as will be a long time before i can afford a decent TV with that connection. I just want a decent player for films and music, connected via scart, will work well with Denon 1906 amp and will play DVD+Rs.
Any feedback or advice is appreciated. To save anyone recommending it, i tried my DVD+Rs on Tosh 350E and they didn't work.
Thanks.

ME TOO!. My Sony DVP-S335 has just gone on the blink so I to would like views on the Denon DVD-1720 (stop gap before HD DVD/Blu-Ray etc). Any lip-sync problems???
Need to utilize existing 4m Digital optical lead to SONY STR-DB930 Amp so TOSH 350 no good. Will be connecting to new Tosh 37WLT58 LCD TV via component. Comments welcome

I was talking about when they did their review on the 1920 - thought that was obvious.
Cheers,
Martin.

ok
1720 does'nt have lip sync probs, so should'nt confuse it with the 1920.

To clarify : dashfield, in his opening thread, asked if the 1720 suffered, like the 1920, from lip sync problems. This was followed up by jamct asking the same question.
You then replied by pointing them to the Home CInema Choice Review of the 1720.
I then simply pointed out that, when the same magazine did a review on the 1920, they made no mention of any lip sync problems with that machine and, therefore I am implying that, just because they made no mention of it again with the 1720, it does not categorically mean that it does not have have the problem - nor am I saying it does have it, I just advise caution.
Trust this clarifiies your confusion.
Cheers,
Martin.

I've got a 1720 which I'm running over component into a LG HD LCD and previously into a toshiba Picture Frame 2 and it has been one of the more stable players I've had in recent years. No lip synch problem. good strong picture and good audio as well. The build quality feels little flimsy (big player but feels very empty) but it performs well. I previously had a Harman Kardon DVD22, a pioneer 444 and a Panasonic S75 and the qic quality is better than all of them.
not meaning to hijack this thread but I'll also be selling mine very sortly due to a move so if anyone interested I'll let them know as soon as the advert is up.

Can you manually set progressive scan to film mode?
My Pioneer 380 is auto only and struggles a bit with film mode for progressive scan.
Thanks
